We have already raised over $1,725,000!
Since our founding on Drake’s campus in 1949, more than 1,100 men have had the honor of being initiated into the Gamma Tau Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity. These men have created a long history of leadership on campus, in the classroom, in intramural sports, and as alumni. In fact, two of our alums serve on Drake University’s Board of Trustees, one for over twenty years.
For the past 40 years, our Chapter House at 1320 34th Street has been the centerpiece of Gamma Tau Chapter life and the place most of alumni have all called home at Drake University. The current house has undergone only minor renovations and repairs since its purchase in 1975, so, in 2013, our alumni chose to undertake a major capital campaign to totally rebuild our Chapter House. A house that will meet and exceed the needs of today’s students; both for comfort and safety. Once completed in the spring of 2015, the Gamma Tau Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity will provide a safe and efficient facility for our undergraduate members; a home that will raise the bar for fraternity living and totally transform the landscape of Greek Street.
The Theta Chi Capital Campaign
As a result, in 2013, the Gamma Tau Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity proudly announced our capital campaign, “A Testament to Our Past, a Legacy for Our Future”. The goal was to raise $1,856,000, as we were founded nationally in 1856. As a result of the generosity of more than 250 alumni, Daughters of the Crossed Swords, parents of both alumni and current undergraduates, and friends of the Chapter, we are pleased to report that over $1,725,000 has already been raised! The Chapter House is undergoing demolition this summer and we will begin construction early this fall. We have the most incredible and totally committed alumni on 34th Street and we fully expect to exceed our goal by the end of 2014!
The new Chapter House will anchor the Gamma Tau Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity to the university for decades to come. We are building a new $ 2.4MM, first-class residential facility on the same location.
The new Chapter House will feature over 11,000 square feet, occupancy for 30 members, full food service, and living quarters and office space for a housemother/father/graduate assistant. This house will be the new home for all future brothers of Theta Chi Fraternity~A place they will be proud to call home and a place they will be proud to come home to after they graduate! In fact, the “Alumni Room” in the new Chapter House will welcome our alumni home from every generation!
